Leah & Floyd’s Story

Leah and Floyd with baby Ethan

Leah and Floyd started trying for a baby in September 2016 after being together for 3 years. She realised, after coming off the pill, that she wasn’t having periods. Leah decided to try reflexology and acupuncture to see if this would help but she found that it didn’t really work for her. Talking about reflexology and acupuncture, Leah said that she “was willing to try anything at that point”.

Leah went on to have investigations which revealed she had polycystic ovaries. She was referred to see a specialist at Broomfield hospital where both Leah and Floyd had to have several tests. Floyd’s sperm was tested and it was discovered he had low motility. Leah was put on clomid and Metformin for a couple of months and they were told to try and conceive naturally. The medication made no difference and they had no luck in conceiving.

After being on Clomid and having no success, Leah and Floyd were informed that the next step would be IVF. However, due to the lack of funding, there wasn’t much the NHS could do for them. At this point they had lost hope of having a baby. They both googled fertility clinics and found Simply Fertility.

“From my first phone call and appointment with Simply we started feeling hopeful again. All the staff are so friendly, they would always listen to us and would put a smile on my face.”

They came in for a fertility package and the treatment that was offered to them was IVF. After the egg collection, where 16 eggs were collected, Leah was a little poorly due to her ovaries being over stimulated. She was warned this could happen due to having polycystic ovaries. The embryo transfer took place on day 5 with five embryos to be frozen.

“The wait was hard, I tried to carry on as normal. I didn’t think it had worked due to some bleeding and cramps and at this point I had lost hope again. During this time I was looking after my parents dog and she wouldn’t leave me alone. Looking back on it now I think she must have known. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the pregnancy test, I had to do two more tests to triple check. It had worked, we were so excited it didn’t feel real.”

Their beautiful baby boy Ethan arrived on 13th February weighing 7lbs.

Leah is currently enjoying her maternity leave and loves being a mummy to baby Ethan. “He is everything and more than we could have ever asked for. We can’t thank Simply Fertility enough for our beautiful miracle. We would definitely use them again for our next child.”

“Thanks again Simply for all your help.”
