What are the most common fertility treatments?

  • IVF – This stands for In-Vitro Fertilisation and is the most common type of fertility treatment. Your eggs and sperm are combined in a petri dish, then placed in a laboratory incubator. IVF is also known as a ‘stimulated cycle’ because you will take drugs that stimulate your body ahead of the collection of eggs.
  • Donor or frozen embryo treatments – This treatment uses frozen embryos from a donor or previous cycles, which are then placed into your womb. Although the journey is similar to IVF, you do not have to take any drugs, as this is an un-stimulated cycle.
  • Other treatments – You can also look into alternative treatments such as surrogacy, fertility preservation, egg freezing, help from donors, surgery, or embarking on a natural cycle to try to have a child. However, your suitability will depend on your situation, which we are here to discuss with you.
