Preparing for Fertility Treatment
So many questions? Not sure where to start?
Then read this guide to help you start your journey. We have lots of helpful information to give, so please contact us if you need further advice.
Simply making the decision to undergo fertility treatment can be a hard enough decision, but once begun, the amount of information provided can be overwhelming. It can be hard to know where to start. Questions those trying to conceive should ask themselves include;
Do I need treatment?
Before embarking on fertility treatment, you should always be advised to take a look at your physical wellbeing, as this can affect fertility. Smoking, drinking and drugs can all take a toll on your body, as well as under (or over) exercising or eating. Steroids can cause extremely damaging and sometimes permanent damage to male fertility in particular, and should always be avoided, or stopped if you’re already taking them.
While exercise and a healthy diet is important to physical health, extremely strenuous physical activity or particularly strict diets can impact fertility negatively too.
Whether you’re reluctant to move on from trying to conceive naturally, or ready for IVF, fertility supplements available at our clinic can help to improve the integrity of sperm and eggs.
If you feel it is time to move on from attempting naturally, a further question is;
Am I prepared for treatment?
Fertility treatment can be demanding physically and emotionally, so it’s best to be sure you are prepared adequately, and have considered several aspects of it;
o How many cycles of treatment you and your partner are willing to undergo.
o Whether you wish to inform friends/ family/ colleagues about your treatment.
o How much the treatment will cost and how you will pay for it (we work with Access Fertility who offer refund and finance schemes).
o How you would deal with a potential failed cycle as a couple.
o How you will make adjustments to your current work and social schedule to facilitate treatment and support each other throughout the process.
Which treatment is right for me?
In order to assess your fertility and decide which treatment option is right for you we offer fertility assessment packages. Remember there is no obligation when taking a Fertility Assessment Package, but the benefit is that you become a registered patient with us and so free to use our advice.
There are several different treatment options available, designed to cater to a variety of people and subfertility levels;
- Ovulation Induction
- IUI (Intrauterine Insemination)
- IVF (In Vitro Fertilisation)
- IVF (In Vitro Fertilisation) with ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Injection)
- FET (Frozen Embryo Transfer)
- Surgical Sperm Removal
- Genetic Screening
- Fertility Preservation (sperm and egg freezing)
- Egg and Sperm Donation
Each treatment option has a different level of success. If you book a fertility assessment package you will receive advice on which treatment options are suitable for you and what the likely success of each option will be for you personally.
Both Informal Chats with one of our specialists (simply call our office to book) and Open Evenings (book online) are aimed at providing you with the necessary information to make an informed decision about starting treatment and are free of charge. Though we will consider you our patient and feel responsible for your care from this point, you are under no obligation to continue treatment, should you feel you are not ready or prefer a different clinic.
